Self-Assembling Serpentine Robot
نویسنده
چکیده
The Problem: The problem is to design an autonomous mobile robot that is self-assembling from independently mobile segments. We choose a design inspired by the constitution and motion of snakes or worms. In such a construction, the body of the robot is segmented and each segment can be designed as an autonomous entity, which is able to move and couple with other segments. Several of these segments will then assemble into a bigger snakelike robot.

Multiple-objective Optimization of Serpentine Locomotion with Snake Robot by Using the NSGA
This paper starts with developing kinematic and dynamic model of a snake shape robot in serpentine locomotion and finishes with actual experimentation. At the beginning the symmetrical and unsymmetrical serpenoid curves are introduced. Kinematics and dynamics of a snake robot on flat and inclined surfaces are obtained for a general n-link robot. SimMechanics toolbox of MATLAB software is employ...

Designing the self-balancing two-wheeled mobile robots and reducing undesired vibrations are of great importance. For this purpose, the majority of researches are focused on application of relatively complex control approaches without improving the robot structure. Therefore, in this paper we introduce a new two-wheeled mobile robot which, despite its relative simple structure, fulfills the req...
متن کاملAn Approach to Self-Assembling Swarm Robots Using Multitree Genetic Programming
In recent days, self-assembling swarm robots have been studied by a number of researchers due to their advantages such as high efficiency, stability, and scalability. However, there are still critical issues in applying them to practical problems in the real world. The main objective of this study is to develop a novel self-assembling swarm robot algorithm that overcomes the limitations of exis...
متن کاملSerpentine Robot Locomotion: Implementation through Simulation
Machine locomotion using wheels, tracks or legs is common where as generating locomotion in a limbless, wheelless system is more challenging. Wheeled locomotion and legged locomotion have already been studied by many researchers in detail. On the contrary the limbless locomotion has drawn very limited degree of interest. In limbless locomotion (of a serpent) the cyclic changes in the body shape...

This chapter is devoted to a bio-inspired self-assembling of heterogeneous robot modules into specific topological configurations. The approach involves several algorithmic inspirations from biological regulatory networks for achieving environmental dependability and considers constraint-based optimization techniques for finding optimal connections between heterogeneous modules. Scalability and...
